SAN FRANCISCO — October 26, 2026. The City and County of San Francisco opened a recruitment today for an AI Platform Support Engineer to help departments deploy and monitor generative artificial intelligence systems. The salary listed on the official city careers site ranges from $143,572 to $180,596.
What the position would work on
The Department of Technology describes the 1042 IS Engineer–Journey role as a full-time, permanent-exempt position within Support Services. The work would involve building operational procedures for access management, monitoring, cybersecurity and compliance before AI systems are used at scale across city departments.
The announcement says employees may assess tools such as local AI agents and desktop applications, including their security risks, in collaboration with the Department’s cybersecurity team. This is an advertised city position, not a report that a new AI system has already been deployed throughout San Francisco government.
Very short application window
The official listing opened Monday, October 26 and closes Wednesday, October 28 at 11:59 p.m. Applicants must complete an additional supplemental questionnaire and submit through the city’s official application system; simply emailing a résumé is not described as sufficient.
Candidates need to check the formal experience, educational and work-authorization conditions in the posting. A published salary range does not guarantee an offer at the upper end.
