SAN FRANCISCO — October 26, 2026. Drivers who had to plan around the weekend closure of the westbound Interstate 80 Bayshore Freeway now have an official reopening notice. Caltrans says all lanes and ramps reopened at 3:32 a.m. Monday, October 26, several hours ahead of the announced 6 a.m. deadline.

What crews completed

The overnight and weekend work began October 23 and involved placing a polyester-concrete overlay on the elevated freeway segment between Fourth Street and the I-80/US-101 interchange. Crews completed the planned rehabilitation and returned traffic to the westbound lanes. This is an updated status report: an earlier closure advisory should no longer be treated as proof that the freeway remains shut.

The next major freeway closure is November 6–9

Caltrans has separately scheduled the remaining southbound U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway repaving through Hospital Curve for 11 p.m. Friday, November 6, until 6 a.m. Monday, November 9, between Cesar Chavez Street and 17th Street. The agency says northbound U.S. 101 lanes will stay available, and suggests southbound I-280 as an alternate route during the planned southbound closure.

These November dates are planned construction times, subject to change. They are not an active road closure on October 26. Travelers should confirm current details before leaving through Caltrans QuickMap and the project website.
